Algarve has always been the main point for many Europeans when they must choose their vacations.

The reasons for that are straight forward: Algarve is beautiful. Since its the coastline of southern Portugal, is a region of extreme diversity and contrasts and has a pristine natural scenery, with traditional fishing villages.

HOW IS THE SCENERY IN ALGARVE?

Algarve appeals to a wide range of tourists:

  • from families;
  • to thrill seekers and to those who seek a different cultural experience.

Here we are going to guide you through Algarve and the reasons on how and why it became a reference worldwide.

As the Telegraph so eloquently put it:

You might think you only need a car to get to the beach and back but it really is worth turning off the beaten track to see the hidden Algarve in all its beauty. Inland, there are groves of cork trees, olive trees with storks nesting on them and white-washed villages, covered with deep pink bougainvillea, where men with weathered faces and flat caps fill the cafés in the main square. Drive along the coast, and you will pass field after field of wildflowers, tiny stone chapels and views of the blue sea at every turn, a drive worth dallying over.

HOW ARE THE PEOPLE FROM ALGARVE?

Algarve, as a holiday destination, is hassle-free. Is a very safe area, hotels are of a high standard and English spoken by nearly everyone.

And, as everyone that has ever visit Portugal knows, the Portuguese people are very welcoming and hospitable.

Undoubtably Algarve provides some of the best value for money in Europe.

HOW IS THE WEATHER IN ALGARVE?

Algarve has long hot summers, but also pleasant spring/autumns and the winters are mild. If want to avoid tourist season, then forget coming from June to September. It is when the beaches are packed, and hotels are full. And it makes sense!

It is the hottest season, one of best beaches in Europe is located in Algarve,  and most couples with kids enjoy the school holidays. But, as we said, if you want to avoid the crowds the hordes of children, there is still fantastic weather and buzz to enjoy before June and after September.

HOW CAN YOU GET FROM FARO TO ALBUFEIRA?

Unfortunately, it is not easy to get from Faro Airport to Albufeira. Public Transportation is extremely limited and most tourists either pre-book a private transfer or get a shared transfer from the airport. Should you get a taxi? That is up to you in the end, but we’ve to warn you that it might surpass a fee of 70€. Uber and other companies are present in the Algarve, but they still charge a lot comparing with other options. But, as we have said, that is up to you to choose.

If you are going to take our suggestion with public transportation, we recommend the following:

  • Faro airport to Faro city (by bus)
  • Faro to Albufeira (by bus or train)
  • Albufeira bus/train station to your hotel (by taxi, bus or walk)

Our final suggestion, from Faro Airport to your hotel in Albufeira, is to pre-book a private transfer, which costs €32/€64 (one way/return) for up to four people. During the summertime Faro airport can be chaotic, with massive queues for everything; so, it is always best to pre-book before arriving.

WHERE CAN WE STAY?

We recommend the following hotels:
